DID YOU KNOW

The Boston Marathon may be the oldest marathon in North America, but it's not the oldest road race. First held in 1897, the Boston Marathon will celebrate it's 111th anniversary in 2007.

Just north of the border however, we will be celebrating the 114th anniversary of Hamilton's very own Around the Bay 30k Road Race. The Hamilton Herald Newspaper and cigar store owner "Billy" Carroll, originated and sponsored the first "Around the Bay Road Race", run on Christmas Day, 1894. This makes the "Bay" Race the oldest road racing event in North America. Race Director Mike Zajchenko invites you to sign up and get ready for our upcoming race in late March 2007.
